  1. Don't get a pentax, try looking for the Canon Eos 350D
  2. If you've got an hour or so to spare, take a look at www.dpreview.com's review of it. They do some insanely detailed reviews of cameras, I was just looking at their Nikon D40 review yesterday.
  3. You should rather get a Canon .
  4. i know you're just a beginner, but if you think you might want to get really involved in photography, i'd look at a camera from canon or nikon. while the pentax is probably a fine camera that would serve you well, either canon or nikon have an enormous selection of lenses and accessories to support their brand. if you decide to upgrade your camera body in a couple of years, you'll still be able to use the accessories and lenses on the new body.
  5. Whenever people ask for a recommendation based on the lowest price, this is the camera I recommend. Get it. The cheapest DSLR that is worth owning is probably the Pentax K110D, and this is coming from a Nikon fan. This is a decent camera. You can click on individual user comments on this page: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=pentax_k110d You can also read this review of the K100D, which is the same camera as the K110D, except that it also has image stabilization in the camera: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/k100d.html Check out this set-up. You can get the body, the "kit" lens for $395 after a rebate from B&H Photo in New York. (Rebate ends 4-30-07) You can find B&H by going to Yahoo! Shopping, as they are one of the retailers that Yahoo! links to. "Pentax K110D, 6.1 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera Kit with Pentax Zoom Super Wide Angle SMCP-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Autofocus Lens." You will still need a memory card, which you can buy for about $30-45, depending on the size you choose.
  6. Coming from a fellow Pentaxian (K10D & *ist D) Pentax lenses are just as good, if not better them equivelant counterparts by other companies. Ok they don't have 80-100 lenses out there like Canon/Nikon buy they do have all the bases covered and high-end glass coming out next month (200 f.28, 300 f2.8). PLUS you can use all the old glass that nikon/canon are abandoning (canon can't use ef-s lenses on higher level bodies, Nikon can't use metering with ai, ai-s lenses on newer bodies and the D40 can only AF with 22 current lenses. Some people say Pentax is not for profesionals.... hmmmm .... then why do they have a 645D (digital medium format) and Canon/Nikon/Sony/Fuji don't? Pentax is competeing against the REALLY BIG BOYS like Hasselblad, Phase, and the like that the other guys can't even touch.
  7. Take a look on eBay for other Pentax dSLR's. I picked a *ist DL2 for like $200, and a lens could be had for less then $100. The only thing going for the K110 is that is a newer model. It doesn't have any more features vs. the *ist models.
