Freelancing photographer pay should start at what for a beginner?
I am considering individual photographs. And then going for the artistic side of photography on free time. How much should prints sell for in a tourist area? Any tips would be nice!

- Check with other photographic services in your area and charge accordingly. What you will end up with though depends on how good you are, and how well you can sell.
- When I broke into freelance (about 15 years ago) I had papers offering $10 per photo; while magazines were usually a bit more reasonable. I found that rather insulting. If you can't cover your gas, film (if that's the route your taking), and put at least $25 - 50 in your pocket, it isn't worth putting your camera in the car. If you produce good work, it's certainly worth paying for. Let some other poor slob who thinks they're a photographer work for pennies. Have some self respect and don't give these idiots who won't pay you enough to cover your gas the satisfaction of decent photography. If however, you need the practice, then ANY money someone is willing to throw at you helps you cover expenses. When I priced my own services, I charged $75 to show up, plus materials and processing. If I was on site more than an hour, each additional hour cost you another $25. It's 15 years later, and I haven't been working in this industry (I've been teaching full-time) so I'd probably raise that to $35.
