What should a beginner in photography study first???
It was suggested I study: Compostition Light Exposure Depths of Field Focus Do you agree with this? Or, do you have other suggestions to what I need to study? (please explain in depth) ( I only have a digital camera and I dont know a thing about film camera...except to point and shoot the disposables )

- I would say yes except I would change the order. Exposure Focus composition depth of field light That's only because they are in the order of easy to difficult. But in the order of what is important, I would put composition and lighting. In fact what separates good photographer from great photographer is the lighting (or lack of). If you look at many high end portrait photography it is all about lighting. === Other than that I would suggest that you get photo books (I mean books with nothing but photos - not how to). And analyze them. Think about them and imagine what it takes to recreate them. In my experience (my person experience), I was taught all the technical aspects of photography (camera, darkroom, etc) in school. But in the end I did not grow until I was told to just keep looking at classic photographs. It turns out that it is our nature to copy / replicate things we see the most. And record what you shot (exposure, style, intent) and compare them to what you got. Some books will have self assignment section. These are really good. They make you concentrate on one aspect of photography and force you to grow in that way. Good Luck. === Don't forget to vote for the BEST ANSWER - please - whoever it may be. - I do agree that you study those things, but you shouldn't beginning with a digital camera, if you can borrow a camera were you can adjust the lens so you can learn, like the great photographer learned and then you can go ahead with the digital camera and you should try W&B pictures
- Both answerer's make good points. I would suggest that you also take a class or two at a local community college so you can learn how to expose, develop and print your images in the traditional way. This will inevitably enhance all your image making skills and put you well on your way to being able to produce images that you can replicate any time you have an inspiration.
