Do you think canon EF-S 18-55mm will be a great lens for me as a beginner in photography?

By the way I want to shoot landscapes and I am also planning to invest for much wider sigma 10-20mm. But before that I want to learn more with my camera using EF-S 18-55mm I am in Dubai now. Sorry for my wrong grammars. :D

  1. Yes, a good allround lens. I have an 18-55 in my cameras kit and it is good for landscapes and without getting too much wide angle distortion, while the 55mm end can be used for portrait work. These usually come bundled with a camera body offering excellent value for money.
  2. This is one of my favorite lenses for walking around town and taking pictures without having to lug around my hefty EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM on a much heavier body like the 40D or the 5D. It works very well with my Digital Rebel XT and sometimes it is fun to take a step back and take pictures like I used to when I first started with a DSLR. I typically pair this lens with my inexpensive EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 III which can be purchased online for around $150.00 US. These lenses will not produce the quality of Canon L Series glass, but for an advanced amateur that is learning the craft, they will perform very well.
