  1. If you are willing to take a class in photography, buy a nice Nikon or Canon 35mm SLR with lens for around $200 on craigslist. From there you will know what equipment you will need next .. a 12-24mm if you are shooting landscapes or architectural or 70-300mm if you are into shooting wildlife and nature. By the time you have spent a year or so learning how to control all the aspects of the camera and lenses, you will be able to buy a DSLR made by the same company that made your 35mm SLR Samples from craigslist from my area. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/pho/597552597.html http://phoenix.craigslist.org/pho/577014807.html
  2. Digital. No question. The best that you can afford. Upgrade much later on when you have mastered the first camera and realise its shortcomings.
  3. well if all you want to do is take landscape photos, then medium or large format cameras would be in order. the large format would be trickier and more expensive to master so the medium format would be a good compromise. these cameras mostly use prime lenses which is the best way to learn advanced photography. film photography is a pay as you go format where digital is a pay upfront. landscapes certainly look better in large prints and digital cannot produce the size that film does adequately. i feel that one can learn some bad habits from starting with a digital and a zoom lens. film will make you think a bit more before you shoot.
  4. Get a DSLR. Entry level model will do. With digital, you can experiment everything everyday.
  5. If you're serious about photography then get a DSLR (most photography schools require that you have a DSLR). We use the Canon Rebel XTi at the Art Institute. It's a great camera and the price has recently dropped a lot since the newer version (the XSi) will be coming out soon. I suggest you get the XTi and a nice lens (wide angle lens is good for nature/landscape) rather than the XSi. Best of luck!
