Can you recycle the silver used for photography dark rooms and sell it to a metalurgist or coin dealer?
Our university just tosses this silver in the trash is there a way I can get rid of the other chemicals and sell it to someone?
Public Comments
- Try taking it to a recycling place or scrap yard. They may or may not have a use for it.
- Yes, but it's an electrolytic reaction. You have to know your chemistry. Depending on the price of silver, the electricity to do this may cost more
- Right now the cost of extracting the silver is moe than the silver is worth. When the Hunt Brothers tried to corner the market and silver was above $50 an ounce, there were some recyclers who would buy photographic waste. We have some productive gold mines that have been shut down for years because of the cost of extraction.
- Yes, a company called Safety-Kleen will pay you for it and recycle it. They are national, so look em up.
