Can you recycle the silver used for photography dark rooms and sell it to a metalurgist or coin dealer?

Our university just tosses this silver in the trash is there a way I can get rid of the other chemicals and sell it to someone?

Public Comments

  1. Try taking it to a recycling place or scrap yard. They may or may not have a use for it.
  2. Yes, but it's an electrolytic reaction. You have to know your chemistry. Depending on the price of silver, the electricity to do this may cost more
  3. Right now the cost of extracting the silver is moe than the silver is worth. When the Hunt Brothers tried to corner the market and silver was above $50 an ounce, there were some recyclers who would buy photographic waste. We have some productive gold mines that have been shut down for years because of the cost of extraction.
  4. Yes, a company called Safety-Kleen will pay you for it and recycle it. They are national, so look em up.
