- Go for digital for sure, film is old fashioned and expensive. You should look into an SLR camera. The other option is a veiwfinder, and much less quality. There are a couple kinds of lens attachements, the normal lens takes things their normal size, a telephoto is extreme zoom, so you can get really close up without blurring, and wide angle widens what the camera sees. Its for like landscapes and stuff. Ask her what she wants to photogragh and that should determine the lens type! Good luck.
- Good entry level dslrs would be Pentax K100 Canon Eos XTL Nikon D40 These are all fine cameras. Not too pricey, have easy to use features. They all can be purchased with an 18 to 55 mm lens. These should be within a 400 to less than 500 dollar price range.
- The sony cyber shot isnt expensive and when put on the effect of light sensitivity it can take amazing photos. Also get Photoshop to further edit photos. have fun! =]
- Canon rebel xt (about $400) comes with a kit lens that is good, then add a medium telephoto zoom lens ( 75-300 mm) Thats what I use most of the time. Between the two lenses most subjects can be captures quite well.
- It sounds like you are looking for a Digital SLR. I would take her to a good camera store and have her try out some entry level models. I say this because the lenses are not interchangeable between brands so she should really choose the camera that feels best in her hands. Some cameras to look at would be Canon Rebel XT, XTi or XSi Nikon D40, D40x and D60 These cameras all come with a kit lens that is an 18-55mm zoom lens and will be fine to start out with. As her experience grows and she decides what subject she likes to shoot she can add other lenses. Prices for these cameras range from about $500-$1,000 with the lens. I strongly recommend that she take a photography class. SLR cameras work differently than point and shoot cameras and if she wants to get the most out of it she needs to know how to use the camera manually. All of the cameras listed have full auto modes which will let her use the camera while learning. I hope this helps.
- I would definitely go with digital, and having some of the advanced features of an SLR would be ideal. Check out the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI, that should be great! Just make sure what ever you get has 1. a removable lens 2. adjustable focal length 3. a manual option (i.e. the user is able to adjust the shutter speed and aperture) 4. flash That should be enough for a beginner. If you want tips for your daughter, try looking into an e-course. The one that I learned the most from was http://phototips123.info . It's totally free, and full of great info on digital photography.
