Are there any good basic books on beginners photography?
I just bought a Canon A630 and I would like to try more professional photography(more then just, you know, vacation, point and shoot stuff) but I have no idea what Im supposed to do. I think it would be a fun hobby to have but I dont really have any idea how to get started.

- Only about a million of 'em. Library. Reference desk. Barnes and Noble. Information Desk. BN.com and search beginning photography.
- I have this one http://www.amazon.com/KISS-Guide-Photography-Keep-Simple/dp/0789480697 I got it very cheap on half.com I love it. I also have The Photographer's Guide to Using Filters by Joseph Meehan - - also very helpful. also very cheap on half.com. check there and ebay for any of the books you find that you might like. What I did was visit a local bookstore (photography section) and then I could browse through the books and make an educated decision on which ones I would be interested in, then I went home and found them used, but in great shape on the above sites. (both under 5.00) Any way, it's an idea.
- The best books are expensive. Photography by Barbara London and John Upton is used in many photography courses, but is complete enough to be used for self-teaching. You may want to try to find a recent edition, used, at local college bookstores. The latest is the 9th edition. I wouldn't recommend anything older than the 8th edition due to significant changes in the last two editions. Here is a link to the 9th edition : http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0131752014/ref=dp_olp_2/102-0773396-3477700?ie=UTF8&qid=1184727590&sr=11-1 Best new price is $82, highest used price is $102, buyer beware...
- Photography for Dummies. It tells you all about where to take pics, where not to take pics, what to look for when taking people pics, when to/not to use a flash, angles..... so much more. good book It's okay not to know what to do - just get out there and start snapping some pictures!! I love using the "digital macro" setting and taking close ups of flowers, eyes... etc. Good luck!!
