Beginner Photographer?
Hi I am really in to photography and I guess you could say I am a beginner photographer. I need a camera that will take great quality pictures. One that looks pretty professional. I honestly don't know too much about cameras at all, so it would really help if you could take me through the basics of what kind of camera I should get. A good one! Any price is fine I guess. Thanks in advance!

- I don't know much about cameras either but I think the best thing to do would be to talk to a professional. Go to a store with high quality cameras and talk to an employee. They could help you in person and give you the advice you need.
- Start here: http://www.dpreview.com/ Regarding the camera that looks "pretty professional"--I'd say that is not important. Unless it's a Hello Kitty camera (they do make one), any (real) camera looks like a camera, and you should not concern yourself with how it looks to others.
- I prefer my camera with zoom features and 6.0 megapixel capability. The pictures are very, very detailed and I can use my computer to crop them, repair the lighting and colors or even distort the colors which is also cool. Have fun and when using a digital camera you can take thousands, yes, thousands of pics. You can then delete the ones you don't care for and commit the others to CD's.
- It sounds like what you are looking for is an entry level SLR. SLR stands for single lens reflex. A basic explanation of an SLR is that the camera has detachable lenses. Light enters through the lens where there is an adjustable diaphragm that controls how much light is let through. The light then hits a mirror and is reflected up to the viewfinder. When you look through the view finder you are seeing what the lens sees. When you press the shutter button the mirror flips up and a shutter or curtain opens up exposing the film or sensor. An SLR allows you total control over your camera. You can manually set the shutter speed, Aperture, ISO and focus of the camera. This allows much more creativity. If you are looking for digital go to a good camera store and play around with some entry level cameras. Some models to look at would be Canon Rebel XTi or XSi Nikon D40 or D60 These cameras will range in price from about $500-$1,000 with a lens. You can also look at some 35mm cameras as well. You can buy a really good used one for a couple hundred dollars or a new entry level model for about the same. I also strongly urge you to take a class. Many are offered at your local community college. The camera store may also offer classes.
- well I like my nikon d40, but it really doesn't matter what camera you choose. as long as you feel comfortable with it. good pictures happen because of the person behind the camera, not because of the camera itself.
- if you want a good camera its going to be expensive keep in mind that you get what you pay for http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080527232330AA1euE1&r=w
- I have bought a Canon Rebel and love it.You really need to figure out your expectations of the camera. Do you want one that does all the work for you or would you like to be hands on with your photos & be able to set your own apeture etc? I can pretty much do anything with my camera...I'd say that you'll probably want a 6 - 8 pixel. Trying going to Consumer Reports.com they'll give a breakdown of which camera you might like based off your answers as to what your intentions are. Nikon's rock also...see below for someone else's suggestions. You want one that you can add things too later; filters, lens' etc
