What is a good camera for a beginner photographer?
200 pounds or 400 dollars is the maximum amount I can spend... Thanks a lot ! xx I want a photography camera used for capturing decent images with decent zoom, so something a bit more than the cybershot when thinking of image quality and zoom. Thanks xx

- a good camera for a starter is probably an Olympus Fe series $200 or a Sony cybershot series about the same as the Olympus
- Maybe a Canon Powershot.
- I love my nikon d40
- canon eos digital rebel xt. 499 really good for begginers (dont get a nikon) cough cough* here one of my favorite photographers she used the canon rebel xt for a long time before switching to a canon 5d http://www.larajade.com most of the work is done with the xt
- I started with a Pentax *ist DS, which I would highly recommend. It is a Digital SLR with fully manual capabilities, but great auto modes and simple so you won't get confused. No need to worry about Continuous-AutoFocus, AI focus mode, or 15 different scene modes, which in the end only complicate and teach one very little about how photography actually works. Mine came with a lens for $300. Since this is an older Pentax model, most of these cameras run around $300-$400, which makes them affordable, but they more than able to hold their own against newer makes and models. I recently acquired an Olympus E500 in addition to my Pentax and was amazed at how complicated it was, even though it is still considered an entry-level DSLR. If you would like to see what the Pentax *istDS can do, you can view my gallery at my website www.ponyphotographer.com ...90% of the photos on there were taken with my Pentax as opposed to my Olympus which I am (still) trying to figure out!
