How to sell art online without someone stealing it?

I know some sites were you can sell art like digital works, photography, drawings, and such online, but how can you safely sell it online without someone trying to save it (even a small thumbnail) to their hard drive and then trying to sell it themselves? Is a person better off trying to sell at art shows? For me, I think it would be easier to try selling online, but it's just the stealing I'm afraid of. Please, don't suggest eBay or any auction site like that. Those are not ideal for selling original art. Thanks. BTW, if you can't post something useful, don't post at all . . . Guerro.

  1. have the image displayed though flash so they can't right click and save, and watermark the hell out of it.
  2. Speaking as a web designer I can tell you point blank that there is no such possible way to stop someone from getting an image off the net onto their computer. Galleries are alright but you lose out on a massive market. Where you might not sell your stuff in a gallery you might find it easier online. You can always water-mark it which ruins the picture and just hope that people can ignore it to see how good the image is. At the end of the day though, if someone really wants to they can get around those with some photoshop work. If they're good enough you can't tell the difference. Yes, I'm speaking from experience on this one. I like a good wallpaper, what can I say? Check out DeviantArt, CGTalk and GFX Artist. All three are great websites with some of the best digital art on the web (especially the last two, they have standards where DA does not) and they have a few things you can do.
  3. Ive been selling my artwork online for a few years now. http://www.mazoo.co.uk/ It is a worry that there people out their stealing my pics and ideas, but i guess you have to live with your fears if you want to sell online. Don't touch Ebay with a barge pole, absolute rubbish and full of copy cat artists that will do just that (steal you work and ideas) Develop your own ecommerce store, cheap to set up and run, take online payment via paypal and with a bit of online promotion you should do ok out of it. If you need any more info on setting up an online shop message me and ill point you in the right direction. Kathryn. (moonbeam)
