Selling fine art photography?
Is there anywhere online that sells images that are fine art? I don't mean like stock websites, my images are more likely to be framed and hung on a wall than used in advertising. Anywhere anyone could recommend?

- Your better off setting up your own web site with Pay Pal as a payment method. If you go thru another, how are you going to control who does what..? Do you send a bunch of your pictures to them and they sell them or are they to contact you and you ship. Every time there is another hand in the cookie jar, more and more cookies disappear.. What I mean is, the more people who handle your art, the more you have to pay.. This is the wonderful thing about the web. You can have a garage industry or even one that is out of a spare room and make ton's of money (or not..) but the chance IS there.... I started with taking my work in a portfolio, 11x14's, some matted some not and even a few in frames to small local Galleries. Every city has a Artsi Fartsi district and they always have boo coo Galleries. See what it would take to hang there. Some are free but require a commission. One place I hang charges $250 a month.. I sell at least 1 piece at that cost a month so I'm covered. Another place is 20% commission. BOTH places have a framed, glassed over BIO about me as well as ways to make direct contact, stepping stones..! Can I get that picture larger..? Smaller..?? I like the nudes, can you do some of me..?? And so on.. All are stepping stones in a path I want to go and the customers take me there.. The only thing I say NO to is weddings, but here, if they can abide by my way of doing things, I will shoot and put them on a CD for them... Overhead... You gotta keep it as low as possible, hence, I make my own frames, cut my matt's and buy glass cut in the sizes I make frames for. I also do custom and weird sizes and they sell good.. 12x24 and such.. Who does your printing..?? What kind of printing is it..?? Are you willing to give your customers the best you can for the $$ they wanna spend..? If I sell a piece of work for $250 or more bucks I want to make darn sure they will be happy with it in years to come. I use a printer, a Epson 7600 wide format that uses pigmented inks. Not dyes like most ink jets, but pigments, like paint. They are bright, colorful and VERY long lasting. Years and years under the same conditions you would hang photographic fine art... These are a few of the things to think about if wanting to sell your work. But, back to your question on sites... Believe it or not, Smug mug is pretty kewl here in this category and they have a few different levels of membership and the ability to sell. Again, YOU would have to get everything together for the customer who buys and once contacted and paid, you ship.. www.pbase.com is another... Many on-line viewing places allow such and you could even set up a Yahoo Site, a Yahoo Groups, that was just of YOUR work and allow anyone to view but not place any of their own. Yahoo Groups are rather flexible and you could have a web presents for nothing.. Your "web site" would be - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/then your name here/ and they be easy to set up.. Good luck..
