How can I start freelance photography?

I am into art photography and have not worked with a photographer before. I wanna know what I have to do to set up, and start getting noticed or who I have to work with. I have an A level in photography and a really good digital slr and editing software. Don't know what else I need. I think my pics are good, but I could always need ways of getting better ideas

Public Comments

  1. go to the doctors medical centre, ask for a lance, and you are on benefit and want to be lanced free, then get a photo of it, happy days
  2. start in your school or campus, then start finding a photo studio. Tell the man you have an experience photoing good friends, and show him some sample. Or just take some photos of booming topics there are "in", then take it to a newspaper editor. Just hope you got the money.
  3. Assuming all your equipment is good and your creations are good the best way I can recommend is to take advantage of opportunities that present themselves. I began by taking wedding and birthday pictures when another professional was present. I gathered the best of the results and gave them as a gift. In the short run, it will cost you...but that is advertising bucks spent well. You can soon develop a reputation among friends and they will notice and may seek you out for a later engagement. In your own home or apartment... Be sure to have your best work on display...well framed but a lot of really good frames are very cheap at Big Lots and other discount chains. Don't be ashamed to put your name in the lower corner of each shot. If the friend/viewer is impressed, they will let you know by making a request. Lastly...flirt with your camera. What I mean is to take candid shots of friends or comment to them that you would like to do a photo shoot of them because of their hair, skin, eyes, etc.. Rarely has this failed. People love to be flattered. Give them copies. Your payoff will come when they recommend others to see you. Again...if your work is good, it will speak for itself.
  4. Don't use a Polaroid or disposable camera
  5. Good photographers are always needed. depends on what pictures wpuld you like to do. I think best way to get noticed is take pictures of models and designer shows.. I would suggest you to visit jurgita.com. Its a big website with many industry professionals. Create your portfolio there and make conections. Participate in forum if you have some doubts :)
