Should I start my own photography business or go to nursing school?

Ok here is the deal...I have wanted to start my own business for long time but I keep talking myself out of it. I have taken a few photography courses and been told that I have true talent by many professionals. But I am worried. I have been in college for 11 years going back and forth on majors. Now I have settled on Nursing, but I don't think I am truly happy with this decision. I am not doing so great in my classes because I am not putting my all into it. SO what should I do!!

  1. why not go for a major in nursing, and a minor in photography, that way if your business tanks, you can still get a job as a nurse, which probably pays better.
  2. Believe in yourself and go for what makes you happy. If you enjoy reading...please pick up this book, its worth the read. "Excuse Me Your Life Is Waiting" by Lynn Grabhorn
  3. Photography .....NO QUESTION! :) good luck
  4. Turn back now. Don't do it. Nursing sucks. I am a nurse and I would love to give it all up and become a writer. SUre the money is good but you give up holidays, weekends, you bust your back, and people complain about you no matter how hard you try to please them. If photography is what you want to do then do it. Good luck to you.
  5. Go with the phtography. It will make you happy and that's allt hat matters. You can always go back to nursing school. "Some are born to move the world To live their fantasies But most of us just dream about The things we'd like to be Sadder still to watch it die Than never to have known it..." Rush - "Losing It" PS Not the oxycontin popping bastard, the trio from Canada.
  6. You go where your heart and your talents take you. Which one of these fields are you good at? Is money the only consideration? Which field would you be happiest in earning a living? Consider these things when deciding.
  7. You know the answer to this question, but I will give you my opinion. No one can predict the future. You should follow your bliss. My guess is your photography will find the appreciative audience you seek. Honestly, look at your words - would you want you for a nurse if you were sick? Nursing is a calling, like the priesthood - no one does it for the money.
  8. Well, I don't really think that you needed to come here to ask yourself that question. You are answering it by yourself... what makes you happy? What are you good in? So you should go for it. If you are not made for nursing, don't do it. You have only one life, you should decide to do what makes you happy. Now, it's up to you to decide what will make you happy... and DO IT !!! Good Luck !!
  9. It's probably easier to get a nursing job than to get someone to pay for your photographs. You say your not doing well and don't really like nursing so you have really answered your own question. You need to be true to yourself and do what you love because that is the job you will put your all into. If you don't like nursing then you wouldn't make a very good nurse because you would regret it everyday that you could be out there with your own business, no one telling you what to do, and loving it too. So now what do you think?
  10. If your love is for photography, then go for it! If your love isn't for nursing, it's going to be tough making it through nursing school. It's a tough program. You could always minor in Photography, but it's very difficult to minor in anything else as a Nursing major, unless your super ambitious. Maybe you could possibly become a nurse, work part-time if you could, and then go back to school for Photography. If you need security, your best bet is going through nursing school, then on to Photography. But if you don't need the security right now..........go full on Photography!
  11. they always say you should enjoy what you do ,choose what you enjoy the most.IT seems like your afraid to go out in the real world. I feel if you have the skills to stay in school for eleven years you can do anything.MY advice to you stick with the photography it sounds more exciting, you don't sound like your into the nursing your not putting your all into it and for what I have read you're an intelligent person.
  12. Job opportunities for RNs in all specialties are expected to be excellent. Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through 2014, and, because the occupation is very large, many new jobs will result. In fact, registered nurses are projected to create the second largest number of new jobs among all occupations. Thousands of job openings also will result from the need to replace experienced nurses who leave the occupation, especially as the median age of the registered nurse population continues to rise. "... for you the blind who once could see the bell tolls for me..." -- the next stanza from losing it. ;-) Increased demand = Increased prices (in this case your nursing labor) P.S. Get a good camera and keep it with you always and refine your craft. Good luck no matter your choice.
  13. I would do what made me happy. If your good at photography and you like it then go for it. Sure you'll make good money being a nurse but what you should ask yourself is, would do you enjoy more being a nurse or photographer.
  14. I attempted nursing school and although it's still in my heart, I couldn't do it. I still believe that nursing is the field for me, but it takes full devotion just to get through the schooling aspect of it. Besides, I found a career that gives me the same "Rewarding" feeling that nursing would have given me. The career I am moving into is being an assistant to a Speech Pathologist. Please, please don't look at just the financial aspect. Honestly, I don't think nurses make enough money. They should be making at least what doctors make. After all, they do all the work. Go where your heart is! The money will follow where your passion is.
  15. I think that nursing school is a great idea. I am currently a nursing student and will graduate in may. There are so many different areas that you can get into with nursing. Pick photograhpy as a side job/hobbie.
