  1. buy a camera
  2. The one thing that encouraged me right away was a photo I took while I was inside the car of a farmer walking. It was very spontaneous but looked like it was all planned. From then on, I became obsessed with photography. Photography is absolutely fun. The feeling that you get when you take a really good photo is like no other. Since you are just starting, you should learn the basics. No. 1 rule is to not mess up with your horizon. Alweays keep it straight. next is keep it simple. Do not take a photo of something that has a really distracting background which would take the concentration of the audience from the subject. Dont overthink a picture. Practice and dont be afraid to be imaginative. Also remember the rule of thirds. You have to imagine dividing your picture into 3x3 and keep your subject in the intersections of the four lines you have craeted. Anyone can do it. Its just takes passion. Goodluck! and Have fun! I know I am!
  3. Well if your really serious then first get a camera. Not just any camera either. The good cameras are going to cost a pretty penny so start saving. Cannon and Nikon are the top ones to look into. Also look into taking a photography class. When I was in High School we had an actual photography class. Otherwise look online or at your local camera/photo store and see if there are classes you can take.
  4. First get a good camera called an slr(single lens reflex) you can set the shutter speed and aperture with this kind and get creative effects. A good film slr is the canon k2 less than $200 right now. A good digital slr or dslr is the canon rebel xt about $400 right now. Also with the slr you can get different lenses, such as telephoto lens which will bring distant subjects in close, wide angle lens that are great for landscapes, and fisheye lens that have alot of neat effects( distortion).
  5. you should start out with a basic compact then work up to slr cameras. These can vary in lense size and are expensive enough. I would try cannon or Pentax. Most of these have good features like appeture and ISO. Also you should invest in good photo editing software like photoshop. There are also books that offer help for basic to advanced photography. I mostly photograph landscapes but have photographed people too. start off small and eventually you will be ready for the better cameras.
  6. If you are serious about photography then get a DSLR... photography schools will require that you have a DSLR, not a point and shoot. We use the Canon Rebel XTi at the Art Institute. It's a pretty nice camera and the price has dropped a lot since the newer version (the XSi) will be coming out soon. I've had mine for about 2 years and I am still perfectly happy with it. It has both automatic and manual features... be sure to play with the manual features. Look at pictures in magazines and on the web, then try to recreate them. Work on composition and lighting. Most importantly, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!! Best of luck and shoot shoot shoot!
  7. Here are some steps I took to become a decent photographer 1. Get a decent camera [I started off with a Kodak Easyshare C330(good learning camera) now i have a Canon Powershot SD750] 2. Start a website. (I started a free one at freewebs.com) 3. Get as many hits as possible on your website. ( I have a counter-thing on my website so I could see how I'm doing) 4. Get a copy of the "Photographer's Market" book. (You could buy one or rent it at a library.) (It gives you many different places to send your photos too, it gives you book publishers, magazines, etc.) And you get paid by selling your photos to them. 5. Take a photography class (it could be a free online one) or just read and learn as much as possible. 6. Please view my photography site http://www.freewebs.com/johnnyphotography Thank You Johnny
