How do I start in fashion photography?

Especially for my blog. I'm 14. I only have a digital camera, but it's a rather good one. I need someone to model for me too. Help? Ideas? Hey, I'm not really interested in a career in photography, just for a hobby, and for my blog. So no serious stuff, ok?

  1. Your going to need education, experience and connections. Probably none of which you have right now in sufficient amounts. Education - be the best photographer that you can be, learn as much as you can on your own, through classes and/or through mentoring with an established professional. Experience - start building a portfolio of work. See if there is a photographer in your area that does fashion and ask to be an apprentice. Connections - you'll need to get your work out there, have skills that make you desirable to hire, a strong work ethic, and the ability to deliver quality images to the clients specifications. You'll need to network with modeling agencies and companies that may want to hire you.
  2. I'm a photographer and started by asking my neighbor to pose for me. You can do the same. Or ask any family member or friend. You can all have fun with no pressure, and you'll learn a lot. Practice, practice, practice! Also, I typed your question into the yahoo search bar at the top of this page and got hundreds of websites. Many of those sites will want you to buy something from them. That's fine if you feel it's a good bargain, but I'm sure you'll find more than enough free information to get you well on your way. You'll find articles to read, sample photos, and quite a few good videos on sites like youtube.com that follow photographers around as they do their own fashion shoots. Good luck!
