  1. a 3ccd video camera would be good, some digital still camera bodies, lenses, tripods, lights, stands, difusion screens, black screens, white screens, a green screen, if he doesnt know what he needs hes not ready basically
  2. The first thing he needs to do is learn how to be a videographer and photographer (usually you are one or the other because the processes are so different). While your brother is in school, he will learn all about what he needs for a video camera and the DSLR system he will want he will be using during the course of his career. I am always amazed that people with not enough knowledge even to pick out a professional camera, yet want to go from zero to pro in just a few days and a few thousand dollars. It is not the way it happens. 1) the beginner needs some schooling if for no other reason but to learn the work flow and how to expose images. 2) after school, there is about a four or five year period working with a pro to hone skills and gain experience. 3) build a system (DSLR or video) a little at a time as skills become more advanced. If I am mistaken and your brother already has the skills necessary to be both a photographer and videographer, then the cost of capitalization is going to be as follows: 1) DSLR system = around $12,000 2) Video camera = about $11,000 to $15,000 3) Three computers = Notebook computer for location work -- $2,500, Desk top computer --- $2,000 and Video editing workstation, $15,000 to $20,000 4) Studio equipment - Lighting; $3,000 to $5,000, backgrounds including chroma key and stands; $500 That should do it.
