How did Photography start?

Does any one have any good videos of how photography started or/and the history of it. I would prefer a video, just cause i can understand them more clearly. Sense photography is my dream, then i think i need some history of it. I searched all over the internet...but really all i found were these huge essays on it, so i kind of want something a little easier to understand but still get the information i want...Thats why i prefer a video pwease and thank yoouuu <3

  1. The Internet really isn't the place to research. There are a plethora of books on the history of photography. The traditional one is by Beaumont Newhall. A photo history book will have lots of pictures to look at that. But doing a quick search on YouTube provides some ripped documentaries. An example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j9C1D3J3L8&feature=related.
  2. If you subscribe to Netflix you will find them there. Some can be viewed online.
  3. So let me guess...you want a 10-minute video on YouTube that talks about the history of photography?? Good luck with that. I'll try to give you a short answer that maybe you'll like. Some artists were using what was called a "camera obscura" to help with painting pictures. It was a small room with a small hole at one end. When light passed through the hole, it worked like a lens and projected an image onto the back wall of the room. The artist could then use that to help with painting a picture, by tracing the image. But they were looking for a way of making a permanent, "portable" picture. Around the early 1800's, scientists discovered that certain materials were senstive to light. They would darken if exposed to light. So "plates" could be coated with light sensitive material (silver halide) and if they were exposed with light they would capture an image. When they were developed with chemicals, it would form a permanent, visible image. That eventually evolved into modern day film. There's a lot more to it, but that's about as short and simple as I could make it. I hope that wasn't too long of an essay for you. But I have a question for you. If you really love photography, and you want to learn about it, that's great. But how are you going to learn? Even the basics about photography WILL require reading, such as how to use manual exposure and set the shutter speed and aperture for different lighting conditions, depth of field, etc. Or learning about lighting and composition. There's no way around it, you're going to have to do some reading. What are you going to do then? Photography is an art, but it is also a technical skill. You're going to have to do some reading to learn about it. Sorry.
  4. These should give you a little boost. The Genius of Photography is the entire series, it's 6 episodes, each episode consisting of about an hour. The first episode deals with the history of photography. I'm not sure if those are the only parts on YouTube, but it's a start, eh? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut00KGEwYL0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEYWOholuH8&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=didxUv3RJT8&feature=related
