what is a good camera for a beginner photographer?

i would like to know what type of camera would be good for a beginner. i would like to get a SLR camera but they are so expensive. what can i get that is not over 300 but close to a SLR ? please help me i would appreciate it. thx

3. To get the closest without buying a SLR camera, you need a class of camera called premium compact or superzoom cameras. The one I recommend that easy to use is the Kodak Z1012. If you want a lot more features then I would go with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28. Also Olympus Sp-550UZ is also another good one if your looking for advanced features! Overall I would go for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28!
