What is a good camera to start photography with?
I'm quite good at it - but at the moment my camera isn't that great. Can you recommend any good digital ones, that come with a usb cable that i can use to upload pictures onto my laptop? Thanks :)

- One that does a lot of the work for you, leaving you to capture the shot, when you learn a bit more learn the trade and tinker about with settings etc... and if you still enjoy it then look at more features and expensive cameras. Personal choice would be sony with about 10M pixels and at least 3 times Zoom (optical)
- Nikon.
- Canon. Definitely. Get a canon powershot sx10 IS. I have that one and i've already made some money off my pictures.
- I have a Casio Z100 in blue. Not only does everyone comment on it because it's great looking (better looking than in the picture on link below), but its easy to use and produces outstanding images and great videos (yes, you can use it as a camcorder!) See http://www.amazon.co.uk/Casio-EX-Z100-Compact-Digital-Camera/dp/B0012PV5TW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240256095&sr=8-2 If thats a bit pricey for you, I bought my mum one for Mothers Day the Casio Z85, which is pretty good also. The only difference is fewer megapixels, the display is not as clear and sharp as mine. There are also fewer Best Shot modes. But that's about it! See below link. http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/19643/casio-exilim-z85/
- Gopro is quite right, Nikon is awesome - my first camera too, i have the nikon D40 and it's amaaaazing ! especially for a beginner beautiful shots everytime, it's a DSLR so its quite bulky but a respectable photographers camera. and is easy to put on your laptop :]
- Most good digital camera's come with the usb cables. I've got a cracking little olympus that takes great photo's, I upload them onto my laptop and have just put a load of pics on a digital photo frame which is great. I'm in the process of looking at an slr camera, and have seen a great looking olympus one (seem to be drawn to that make) for just over £400. My birthday is just around the corner, so here's hoping!
- a finepix fuji camera A920 are really good but sometimes can be exspensive or a Lumix DMC-FX55 are alright
- Nikon Aree great! :)
- To get the most out of your photography you will need a Digital SLR camera (dSLR). I use, and highly recommend, a Nikon D70s. It has now been superseded by the D90, which will cost around £800 new, but you can still pick up the D70s for only a few hundred pounds on eBay or similar. There is also a Nikon D40, which is the entry level dSLR for around £250 brand new. To give you an idea it has a 6 megapixel sensor, while the D90 has a 12 megapixel one. While I am not recommending one way or the other that you buy from this company, Jessops.com has a comparison tool where you can select a few different cameras and compare them to see what different features there are between them. Once again, I am not endorsing the store! Hope that is of some help!
- What you need is a good quality lens connected to a camera with a capable auto function, but also full manual overrides. This way you can progressively "switch the traction control off" to make an analogy to driving. You should really be considering a basic dSLR, Nikon D40 is a good place to start if you want to expand, but the bridge cameras such as the Canon S5IS or SX10IS are quite capable. Another alternative to consider is the Canon Powershot G series cameras.
- A camera that costs you a lot of money, doesnt mean that it takes great pictures. You operate the camera, so it is down to you. You didnt tell us what camera you have now, or provide us with a link to a flickr account or similar, so that we can see how good your pics are. Your camera may be more than adequate for really good pictures, but you may not be using it right. I see that all the 'nouveau professional' photographers have said nikon d40. These are the people who have bought a camera and automatically think that they are pros, and never take the thing off Auto setting. It is not much more than a toy, and people have only bought it as its a nikon. It is very limited in what it can do, and after a while, you will want to upgrade. If you are after a DSLR, look for a camera that has 10mp, (although 6 does just as good) Anti shake built into the body, so that extra lenses will be cheaper. Water and dust seals. Auto bracketing, for hdr work. What camera do I use?? If you are really interested in what I have to say, then I will expect a message from you so that I can send you a link to my profile/portfolio on http://www.redbubble.com/ where you will then see that I know what I am talking about. I let my photos do the talking. Hope this helps.
