- Read loads of guides/tutorials/tips on the internet and in books and magazines. And just take lots and lots of photos. Get into the ''digital darkroom'' to make your images pop. Also, show people your photographs. The more you practice, the better you get :)
- Go find the book Basic Photography by M Langford. One of the later ones as they are easy to understand and do not have all the math in them. Use the book like a school book, start on the first page and work with it doing photos that use the concepts in the chapter. You will find you then know a LOT about making images and understand a lot. Then ask the questions here that come up as you go along.
- Try joining a good photography forum and reading every thread subject that interests you. Many are free and are a very good place to begin to explore and figure out what you need to study. Visit your public library and hit up the photography section. Become a member of flickr and look at the photos and decide what you like and don't like and then go out and work on improving one element that comprises a good photograph at a time. Keep a notebook of what works and what doesn't.
- the best way to get started is to practice, practice practice. there's no better tool than teaching yourself and being in the field learning how to use your camera. online tutorials are nothing compared to what you learn by figuring stuff out on your own.
