I want to start a photography course with hopes of getting into wedding photography someday?

What is a good starters camera? How many megapixols would be acceptable? I am trying to keep the costs under $800 or so. Any recomendations would be appreciated! :) I wouldnt be using this camera for wedding photos. I would upgrade if I like the courses and I find I am realyl good at it. lol.

  1. If I was you Kris with wedding photography in mind a digital SLR is a must.. $800 is a small budget and perhaps you should consider second user equipment. 8 mp would be enough and fast lenses are essential e.g. F2.8 or faster. Also you'll need a good flash gun, preferably two. If you really are considering going professional two of everything is a must in case of equipment failure.
  2. You're going to want the Pink Nikon D3.4X It has 60 megapixels and is super awesome for wedding phtography. It has a firmware for wedding photography and it's holographic too!!!
  3. Just attend your class and you will get some really good advice about what you need. There are no "starter" cameras for weddings. Get a FF dSLR and very fast, quality glass. http://photo.net/learn/wedding/equipment
  4. There isn't one good start camera for any purpose so I am going to name the one I would get with the amount of money you are willing to spend. Buy a Nikon D40 kit and a flash. Then save up to buy yourself a 85mm and an 28mm (both 2.8 or so) and a 55-200 VR (in that order) as soon as you can. I am sure Canon has an equivelent camera and lenses just as good or suitable for your (starter)needs. Starter because of the body which you may want to replace. The 85 and 28 you will use for the rest of your life.
  5. Make sure you ask an instructor or advisor about the camera requirements before you go out and buy one... usually, a simple DSLR will do, so look into the Nikon D40 and Canon Rebel XT. Save the rest of your money for lenses and other accessories.
  6. I think that people are assuming you want a DSLR for $800 that you can use for wedding photography, they seem to be confused. You obviously want a camera you can learn on and in the future upgrade to a camera and kit suitable to wedding photography. I will first say that megapixels do not matter, more MP's do not equal better images!, here is a link I highly advise you to read (all the way through please!) ;o) http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm As far as a camera goes... I think you should start your course, have a play with other peoples cameras on the course and hear what they have to say before buying one. I advise to buy second hand, all my camera bodies and some lenses I have bought second hand or refurbished. You will save lots of money this way and get a better body for your money. I am biased to Canon as I am a Canon user, but I also love Nikon.. For that money I would advise looking at either a new Canon 450D, a second hand Canon 40D, a Nikon D80 or D70 and whichever camera body you buy look at getting a 50mm f/1.8 lens. A great fast prime lens that will be a perfect introduction to portrait photography and low light shooting. .
  7. any dslr camera with a removable lens would be good.
  8. Hello I'm big fan of Nikon DSLR. In your case D40 would do the trick and a more advanced lens like 18-200mm VR.If you are lucky you can pull this combo off for $800 on Ebay And remember it is not the camera but the photographer. so good luck! Brian
