- Asking if your business should be based from home is relative to the type of pro-photography you want to get into. Most of the time you do studio work it is based on the clients set up. You can develop and edit photos at home, but you will rarely work in your house. I would recommend you start off from home and if you start to get big gigs and clients, get a studio or store face... but that is just my opinion. To launch, I would recommend a digital (website) and hard copy of your portfolio. Get proactive and give business cards to local businesses, but up cards on bulletin boards, advertise in your local papers, offer to do free work for a small local paper if they will put your name in with the photo and write you a letter of recommendation, do anything at all to get your name out there! All of that is how I started out and in less than a year I hit an amazing contract... if it can work for me then it can work for you. I love my job! It has taken me to all different kinds of places and has allowed me to meet all kinds of people. I could never imagine doing anything else with my life. Good Luck!!!
