how to register a Photography name in NJ?

I want to finally start up my own photography business. However, how long does registration last? Does it have to be renewed each year? If so, how much? Do i have to register in order to collect a payment for my services from clients? Are there other steps needed for me to be considered a "legit" independent freelance photographer?
